Request for Proposal of the 4th International Symposium on Underground Freight Transport by Capsule Pipelines and Other Tube/Tunnel Systems (ISUFT-2004)

 

Invitation:  If you and your organization are engaged in research and/or other activities related to underground freight transport by capsule pipelines or other means, you are cordially invited to submit a brief proposal to hold the next (4th) ISUFT at the location of your organization. Information about hosting the 4th ISUFT is provided herein.

 

Symposium Official Name:  4th International Symposium on Underground Freight Transport by Capsule Pipelines and Other Tube/Tunnel Systems (ISUFT-2004).

 

Time:  The Symposium is to be held sometime in August, September or October of 2004.  The exact dates of this 2-day or 3-day event can be decided later after the proposal has been selected, and the Symposium organizer has reserved the conference facility.

 

Place:  The Symposium can be held in any country or city where the host institute is located at or near by, so that institutional support for running the Symposium can be conveniently provided.

 

Number of Participants: The number of paid attendees for each of the three previous ISUFT Symposia is between 50 and 80.  For budgeting purpose, the organizer of the 4th ISUFT is recommended to use the lower number of 50.

 

Fee:  It is recommended that the fee for the Symposium will not exceed the equivalent of US$500. The fee should include three meals per day for the two days of the Symposium, beverages during the two-day conference, at least one reception in an evening, and a copy of the Symposium Proceedings either in electronic or printed form. The fee does not cover lodging. It is recommended that a 50% reduction in fee be granted to the members of the International Steering Committee in order to encourage their attendance and reward their service.

 

Proposal Format:  Each proposal should not exceed 2 pages, plus another 3 pages of attachments. The attachments can be anything that strengthens the proposal, such as a support letter from the host institute’s head, or from the organizer’s superior, or a photo showing the Symposium facility or the Campus at which the Symposium will be held.  The 2-page proposal should address the following:

 

  1. Symposium Name:  Use the official name stated above.
  2. Organizer Name, Title and Affiliation.
  3. Organizer’s Mailing Address, Phone & Fax Numbers, and E-mail address.
  4. Host Institute and Its Location: Name of the Institute and the Country and City that the Institute is located in.
  5. Symposium Location:  Indicate whether the Symposium is to be held at the host institute or a hotel. There is no need to indicate the hotel at this time.
  6. Month and Year during which the Symposium Is to be Held: See suggestions above.
  7. Fee: Indicate the amount and what does it cover (see guideline above). Also, please indicate whether you plan to reduce the fee for Steering Committee members.
  8. Accessibility: Indicate location of nearest airport and how to travel from the airport to the hotel or Symposium place.
  9. Advantages: State all the advantages for holding the Symposium at your proposed place, such as convenience to international travelers, and on-going institutional research in UFT. Mention all special attractions such as laboratory tour (if any), post-symposium tour (if any), and sight-seeing opportunities.

 

Proposal Submission:  Proposals must be received by Dr. Henry Liu, Chairman, International Steering Committee, by July 31, 2003. Please submit the proposal and its attachment by E-mail to Dr. Liu, whose E-mail address is fpc_liuh@yahoo.com.  Please limit each E-mail attachment to 1.5 MB, and have no more than 3 attachments.

 

Proposal Review and Selection:  All the proposals received by the July 31, 2003 deadline will be reviewed and voted on by members of the International Steering Committee.  Selection will be made by September 1, 2003.

 

Call-for-Abstracts:  The Symposium organizer is expected to issue a call-for-abstracts by February 1, 2004. The deadline for abstract submission is April 1, 2004, and authors will be notified about acceptance/non-acceptance by May 1, 2004.

 

Symposium Program: The Symposium Program will be printed and mailed to prospective participants by June 1, 2004.  An electronic copy of the Program will also be posted on the ISUFT website.

 

Paper Submission:  Final manuscripts of the full papers must be submitted to the organizer at least two months prior to the Symposium, so that the organizer can have them reviewed and revised for use in the proceedings, which will be available at the Symposium.
