Why Underground Freight Transport?

It is anticipated that the use of UFT for freight transportation will benefit societies and humankind in the following ways:

• It will reduce the number of trucks and trains used for freight transportation, and hence reduce traffic jams, accidents, noise and air pollution caused by trucks and trains.

• It will reduce the amount of energy and fuel (petroleum) used for freight transportation.

• It will reduce the damage to highway infrastructures caused by trucks, and the damage to railroad infrastructures caused by freight trains, thereby enhancing the life of such conventional transportation infrastructure, and reducing their maintenance costs.

• It will transport freight faster, safer, and at less cost than using trucks and trains for the same purpose.

• UFT infrastructures are less vulnerable than aboveground infrastructures, such as highways and railroads, to damages caused by natural disasters including earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods.

• UFT infrastructures are also less vulnerable than aboveground infrastructures to damages that can be caused by manmade hazards such as terrorist attacks or wars.
